For those of you that would like to see the face behind Robyn Geering Photography, well this is lil old me.  This image is not taken by me, it was taken by the lovely Liana Hall nee Lehman last Tuesday.   I have been thinking it was about time I updated my profile image on my website, and Liana was kind enough to snap a few shots of me and send me her unprocessed digital files for me to do my thing.  Mind you, Liana doesn’t just snap shots.

So as I sat here this morning, I thought what can I do to this image - I want to smooth out my skin, and oh those wrinkles around my eye, curse the Australian sun on my fair skin - years of sun damage can be removed with some very handy photoshop tools.  Not to mention the grey hair making a huge appearance - damn, I thought you couldn’t notice.

It’s strange for me to say these things out aloud, and I am questioning myself as to why on earth I would.  It’s sooooo tempting for me to just make myself look 10 years younger in this image, and you as the viewer would be none the wiser, but why would I do that.  This image was taken on my 43rd birthday.  This is me, and this is who I am (with a bit of lipstick thrown on at the last minute).  This is how my friends and family see me, this is how I walk down the street - why do I want to change who I am in an image?

Hehehe, I have always said to myself I want to grow old gracefully - in saying that, the grey hair is now gone (thanks to my sensational hair dresser).  Everything else can stay, just not the grey hair - it’s baby steps.

have a lovely Monday

Seriously, I am still spinning from Liana Hall’s (nee Lehman) Business Bootcamp.  Words cannot express how much have appreciated this kick start to my business.

Over the first two days, we covered a huge amount of business know how to the point of a headache, and then if that wasn’t enough, we covered some more to the point where I just couldn’t fit anymore in. I met some awesome Canberra Photographers, and Photographers from further afar, and together we nutted things out - kinda :-)  On the third day, we were treated - A photoshoot.  I just wanted to thank the awesome Kelly Tunney for firstly hosting this awesome workshop, and secondly organising this sensational couple.  I also want to thank Christine Pobke for making this all happen - you know you seriously rock.

fiona andersen: Holy heck girlfriend... these are to DIE for!!! STUNNING...did you hear me ....STUNNING!!!!

beautiful little girls that seemed to love being in front of the camera.  Ummm, particularly little Miss I, who jumped in front of the camera at every opportunity - awesome, I love it, she was right there with me till the end, full of energy.

So the brief was some long grass shots.  Something I have been wanting to do forever, but long grass shots in Australia in the middle of summer come with their hazards [in the form of snakes].  SO we scoped out a gorgeous area, made heaps of noise, stamped our feet and cleared the area.  Infact, I think it would have been highly unlikely that any snake would have been game to come within a mile of our chosen location.

I really hope you enjoy your preview - here are some of my favourites from the session.

It  was a slow morning, a lovely blissful morning.  One by one they greeted me in bed - the order is always very predictable, and certainly by the time there is five of us in bed, it’s very squishy.  The thing I completely love about school holidays is the mornings - there is no requirement to be any where at any specific time.  Breakfast at 10.00am and no real need to get dressed in any great hurry.

Yesterday there were tears, today I look at them in wonder.

Recently, I became a member of ACOCP, an amazing organisation dedicated to giving the gift of photographic memories to families that have experienced stillbirths, premature and ill infants and children in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units of their local hospitals, as well as children with serious and terminal illnesses.

Before Christmas, I had the absolute pleasure in meeting and photographing the most beautiful Canberra family.  A family blessed with 3 amazing children.   A family full of so much fun and love.

I feel so honoured to be able to share a tiny part of this family story.  Their middle child, a beautiful little girl, suffers from Infantile Battens Disease.  She is now in the final stages of the disease.

I wanted to share the story of this last image.  This beautiful quilt belongs to Chloe.  The little photo in the middle is actually sewn onto the back of the quilt, and is an image of her smiling - a beautiful healthy little 18 month old girl.

For those of you that know of a family that could benefit from the services of ACOCP, the ACT co-ordinator is Natalie Bice.  Please spread the word.

and a new beginning.  We are home, we are finally home.  After nearly 7 months of living out of suitcases, it is no surprise that we took the first possible opportunity to move back into our house - renovations still continuing around us, but who cares, it is just so good to be home.

This year ahead holds so much exitement, our house nearing completion, my business, a wee little holiday to France in the planning, my baby starting school for the first time.  With this comes a tinge of sadness, my baby starting school in just 2 weeks time, a very bittersweet time for me.  At 5 1/2 she is just so excited, and so ready for school, and me - well I am going to miss turning around in the supermarket to look for that little hand to hold.

For now, I am not thinking that far ahead and in fact, I am going to cast back to Christmas, and the amazing day with had in the rain - ah the rain.  A lovely day spent with Andy’s family minus one very important person.

A day spent down at the Canberra Croquet Club.

So it’s Christmas Eve, and the impending arrival of Nana is almost too much too bare.  It marks the start of the celebrations, the excitement is just around the corner.  This moment has not been without it’s dramas, infact the world was about to end yesterday when the Santa stockings couldn’t be found anywhere.  It’s hot outside, and we can all feeling the summer storm brewing, I am just about to brave the markets in 35 degrees heat to pick up the whole salmon, and the party begins.

Here is the scene on the front steps - no pressure Nana.

Shortly, I will have a glass of champagne in hand, knowing that I have delivered all Christmas orders safely into the hands of my lovely clients, and I can now turn my full energies to Christmas fun.  And on the topic of my lovely clients, I just want to thankyou all for your patience over this frantic Christmas period, and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Over the next week, we will be moving back into our newly renovated home - a labour of love.   I may be a little hard to reach as we go through this process, but I hope to have my new office set up at the beginning of the new year.  I can’t tell you how excited I am - beyond excited actually.

So to all of you - MERRY CHRISTMAS, AND A SAFE AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR.

Now off to get that champagne.

Christmas is looming, and I wonder where the year has gone.  Life has been positively frantic as I endevour to finish off the Christmas rush of photographic sessions, amidst the multitude of parties and end of year celebrations.

This beautiful wedding was the last wedding for the year for me and where do I begin.  Perhaps a few words to describe their day - beautiful, full of fun, family, affection, and lots of love (and also phew, hot), yes Canberra turned on a beautiful but hot and balmy day for this lovely couple.

Thankyou for the honour of photographing your wedding Anita and Brian, your spirits are infectious, and I truely wish you both a life time of happiness.

I hope you enjoy your sneak peek.
