Walk the Fence [Canberra Theatre Photographer}
June 4, 2009Theatre photography is something that I rarely show here, but is something that I simply adore. I have been lucky enough to have an ongoing relationship with Jigsaw Theatre Company for about 3 years now, and I shoot all of their performances and marketing materials. Jigsaw Theatre Company is the only professional children’s theatre group here in Canberra, and in my opinion, produces some of the best children’s theatre in Australia. I am completely in awe of the talent and the drive of their Artist Director Kate Shearer. She produces beautiful work that is not only visually spectacular, but is also interactive and challenges the young mind in innovative ways. Her work is incredibly well researched, and draws upon her extensive understanding of childhood development and the issues that effect our children now and into the future. She is not scared to introduce our children to topical issues, but aims to educate them and importantly, empower them.
“Walk the Fence” is Kate’s latest piece, and has be produced in assoication with a Western Australian Dance group for children called Buzz Dance Theatre. The gala opening was on last night at the Canberra Theatre Court Yard Studio. It is aimed at children aged 4-8 years of aged, however, I think that this is a performance for also older children and adults alike. It will be showing here in Canberra for the next 2 weeks, so make sure you get your tickets now. This performance will then be moving over to Perth in September.
