Archive for June, 2009

I was approached a couple of weeks ago by a Dutch bedlinen company called Damai to use one of my images for a new range of organic children’s bedlinen.  Not only do this company distribute their exclusive linen around The Netherlands, but they also distribute around many parts of Europe.  My image will now be used on the packaging for their children’s range.  I simply can’t wait to show you the finished product, but for now, all I can show you is the image.

Happy 9th Birthday

June 13, 2009

To my beautiful boy.  I thought that 8 was a perfect age for boys, and now I know that 9 is even better. I love his sense of humour, I love his sensitivity and compassion.  I love the fact that he gets out on the field and plays football, and then turns around and is the only boy in his Street Funk Dance lessons.  I love his devotion to his family and friends.  He told me that could couldn’t have asked for a better Mum than me today, he knows how to make me melt - I love him.

Happy Birthday Will.

As a photographer, not only do I get to do what I love, but I also get the opportunity to hang out with the loveliest people for a couple of hours.  Infact, I met Brooke at school (a frightening number of years ago), and it is only now that I have had the opportunity to meet her amazing children.  The kids and I had heaps of fun in the leaves, it was just a great opportunity to get down and get dirty.  Thanks for a lovely afternoon.

Theatre photography is something that I rarely show here, but is something that I simply adore.  I have been lucky enough to have an ongoing relationship with Jigsaw Theatre Company for about 3 years now, and I shoot all of their performances and marketing materials.  Jigsaw Theatre Company is the only professional children’s theatre group here in Canberra, and in my opinion, produces some of the best children’s theatre in Australia.  I am completely in awe of the talent and the drive of their Artist Director Kate Shearer.  She produces beautiful work that is not only visually spectacular, but is also interactive and challenges the young mind in innovative ways.   Her work is incredibly well researched, and draws upon her extensive understanding of childhood development and the issues that effect our children now and into the future.  She is not scared to introduce our children to topical issues, but aims to educate them and importantly, empower them.

“Walk the Fence” is Kate’s latest piece, and has be produced in assoication with a Western Australian Dance group  for children called Buzz Dance Theatre.  The gala opening was on last night at the Canberra Theatre Court Yard Studio.  It is aimed at children aged 4-8 years of aged, however, I think that this is a performance for also older children and adults alike.  It will be showing here in Canberra for the next 2 weeks, so make sure you get your tickets now.  This performance will then be moving over to Perth in September.

I have been wanting to post some images from this session for a while now, but I wanted to get my new blog up and running first.  So here are just a snippet from this wonderful session.  I am so pleased I managed to capture so many images of their 14 year old dog “Woofy” - his arthritis prevented him from coming on the walk with us, but he is so much part of the family, it would be a crime not to include him in the family shots.
